Because you learn at your own pace.  In group classes the teacher has to pace the class, which may be too fast or too slow for you.   You have the undivided attention of your teacher, and you spend the entire time working on what you need - not what others need.   Your teacher will dance with you frequently to zero in on problem areas, so he or she can speed the process of learning.   Your chances of developing bad habits will be minimized because you will have the benefit of your instructor's watchful eye at all times.  This creates a strong foundation and better technical development.   If you think you have two left feet, private lessons will turn one of them into a right foot quickly.   Because of the direct approach between teacher and pupil, private lessons are the quickest way to learn.
